battlefield stop motion animation, projector, black paper tape 108" x 120" 2021 installation view from solo show contextability, Riggs Gallery, Maryland Institute College of Art, 2021. This stop motion animation redacts a news media photograph, taking it from a depiction of a specific time and place to an abstraction. As the image transforms from a photograph to a drawing, it can be can be felt more than read; the image becomes more of a commentary than a historical document. In Riggs Gallery, battlefield is installed adjacent to the divide, a partially erased wall text. Both works employ erasure, but of different varieties, to recontextualize. |
