About Wendy... Most people would say one person can't do both science and art. But currently I do both. I enjoy passing on my fascination for way the natural world works to middle school students and I love making art. Making art is an investigation of a different sort - figuring out how to take inspiration from nature and translate the experience into two dimensions.
My art-making process is roughly one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent problem-solving (with a nod to Thomas Edison for the phrasing). To arrive at a moving visual experience for the viewer, I need to resolve issues of composition, scale, transparency and whatever else arises using layers of paint, mark-making and occasionally some collage. I learned most of what I know about drawing and painting from attending classes at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia. In addition, I studied with Kassem Amoudi and Neysa Grassi to learn about abstraction and with Jane Davies to acquire collage techniques. My work has been exhibited locally and regionally, at venues including the Monmouth Museum in Lincroft, NJ and the Philadelphia Sketch Club. |
